How We Began

Scratch Magic began as a ChipsAway franchise in Australia in 1996, and I bought a Sydney franchise in June 1997 but following the collapse of the Australian Master Franchise in late 1998, I continued trading as an independent non-franchised ChipsAway business along with a number of other ex-franchisees, under the umbrella of Automotive ChipsAway Australia.

In 2001 our ChipsAway group ceased working for commercial outlets such as car rental companies, used and new card yards and instead concentrated on providing a professional mobile paint repair service to the private sector only.  We (now Scratch Magic) personally cover the Eastern Suburbs, the North Shore and the Northern Beaches.

In early 2006 ChipsAway International applied to register the ChipsAway trademark in Australia. An agreement was eventually reached in early 2008 between our ChipsAway group and the three remaining ChipsAway operators in Australia for ownership of the ChipsAway trademark to transfer back to ChipsAway International, and our ChipsAway service became Scratch Magic.  The Melbourne ChipsAway service now operates as Auto PaintFix. 

Please note that we have not been associated in any way with ChipsAway International since early 1999 and make no claim to being a part of the international ChipsAway franchise business, nor are we associated in any way with any other former ChipsAway businesses.

Since separating from the franchise organisation we have continually refined and developed our repair practices and paint system in pursuit of the highest standards achievable in our field. Scratch Magic has developed a solid reputation throughout the Sydney retail sector and we generate substantial repeat and referral business.

How We Operate Now

Scratch Magic employs qualified technicians to carry out all repairs to your vehicle.

We offer a no obligation free quote with the car being assessed at your home or office and a written quote is provided on the spot.   Alternatively, photos of the damage can be emailed to louise@scratchmagic.com.au (see contact us page) and I will provide a quote by return email. When emailing photos be sure to state the location in Sydney and to give a contact number and name.

Over the past 13 years, Scratch Magic has probably repaired just about every model and age of car there is. From early model Fords and Holdens to the latest Mercedes, BMS's, Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborginis.  From tradesman's work vehicles, movie and television filming trucks, motorcycles and caravans to gymnasium and dental equipment.    We've even carried out paint repairs to a helicopter!   You can be confident when you get us to repair your vehicle knowing that we have the skills and experience to provide the quality finish you desire.

Most importantly, Scratch Magic prides itself on making and keeping appointments to the timeframe agreed upon.  If delays occur, a courtesy call is made informing you of the delay and a new estimated time of arrival is set.

Taking An Active Role In Our Community

An in depth look at why Scratch Magic donates to Mission Cambodia.

In 2008 and 2009 Scratch Magic has donated funds to Mission Cambodia through the Year 11 students attending Northern Beaches Christian School. Monies raised go directly to orphanages within Cambodia, with every dollar raised being used to help provide food, clothes, shelter and education for orphans and children living in very poor conditions.

Being located on the northern beaches, Scratch Magic has a good understanding of the need to have adequate beach patrols and supports NSW Surf Life Saving through regular raffle ticket purchases.

On an annual basis, Scratch Magic collects household goods donated by a variety of small businesses located on the Northern Beaches. These are then given to charitable organisations such as Clothesline Incorporated www.clothesline.org.au
